Captain Dan has been fishing the big lake for 30 years,
with 17 years as a Licensed Coast Guard and State of Michigan Charter Boat
Captain.
It isn’t easy to be a licensed Charter Boat Captain. You have to know what
you’re doing and prove it to get and keep your license.
Captain Dan is a typical Yooper: went away to serve his
country right after high school, spending
a hitch in the Navy, and went to
work as soon as he got out. It would be pretty accurate to say that he’s
pushing 60, from what side, just depends on which part of this summer you
see him. He’s been in love with the same woman for over 40 years, and is
very thankful that he found a wife that would put up with him for that long. |

Dan
has been fishing all his life,
with trout fishing his main interest.
In his youth, he spent many late nights picking “dew” worms for fishing
native brook trout at the crack of dawn the next day, in the small streams
and rivers of the North Woods of Michigan
and
Wisconsin. In later years he
spent Springs fishing for Steelhead, and Fall fishing for Salmon and Trout.
A 15-foot runabout led to a 25-footer, then another 25-footer, eventually
leading to the present day NOMAD, a 38-foot Chris Craft Commander.
A strong believer that fishing
should be fun, he also has a strong respect and love for the Lake
and all its creatures, in and out of the water. “At One With the
Lake” describes your captain, and you will be too, when you’re
on the NOMAD.
An advocate of
serving his community, Dan has been active in various sportsmen’s clubs and
organizations as a working member and officer over the years, and will
continue to do so.
“ God bless
America, the land that we Love”.
